Colloidal Dispersions under Shear

Colloidal Dispersions under Shear

Our aim is to reveal the link between the macroscopic rheological behaviour and the microscopic structure and dynamics on an individual particle level (as observed by confocal microscopy or light scattering under shear). We investigate concentrated colloidal suspensions, including one- and two-component glasses, as well as colloidal gels. Special attention is paid to time-dependent shear, including switch-on and cessation of shear. In these cases a transition between dynamically arrested glassy states and liquid-like behaviour is observed; the solid-like sample shows yielding.
