Migration of Solvent and Small Particles through Porous Matrices

Migration of Solvent and Small Particles through Porous Matrices

Upon contact with solvent, porous matrices are invaded by solvent. Depending on the conditions, this process is governed by imbibition or diffusion. Furthermore, the porous matrix might swell and even dissolve during this process. We investigate the flux of particle-laden solvent into hydrogels, i.e. cross-linked polymer networks, and follow water as it invades surfactant droplets ('liquid soap') during which fascinating interface instabilities, so-called myelins, might occur.
